Technology Harmonisation Engineer [J 3188]



An exciting opportunity for an experienced Engineer to work for Telespazio VEGA onsite at ESTEC.


To provide support to the Technology Planning Section within Systems, Technology and Concurrent Engineering domain.

Responsibilities / Duties

Duties will include but are not limited to:

Contributing to the tasks of the Technology Planning, which include:

  • Piloting the Technology Harmonisation process at European level leading to roadmaps agreed by ESA Programmes, Technical Domain leaders, Member States and industry and monitoring the implementation
  • Providing a secretariat function for the Technology Harmonisation Advisory Group and Technology Advisory Working Group
  • Establishing the European Space Technology Master Plan
  • Maintaining a database of industrial capabilities consistent with harmonization dossiers and roadmaps, and in coordination with D/IPL
  • Supporting industrial policies relating to technologies
  • Interfacing with the EU for technology related matters and coordinating the Agency support to EU technology programmes
  • Leading the coordination with the European Commission and European Defence Agency of critical space technologies for European non-dependence
  • Maintaining the end-to-end process for management of technology development within ESA, providing the secretariat function to different working groups, and evolving it as required to improve efficiency and use
  • Evaluating technology development results at aggregate Agency level
  • Contributing to actions supporting Member States in preparing and implementing National technology R&D programmes and projects

Qualifications / Experience

  • A PhD or MSc or equivalent qualification in an engineering or technology related discipline.
  • A background in a wide range of technologies relevant to space and experience in space projects and technology development
  • Experience working with the European Commission and/or on EU projects, as there will be a special focus for the post holder on supporting those activities related to the interface with the European Union
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively in a multidisciplinary technical environment. Easy contact with personnel and well balanced autonomy in the execution of the requested tasks
  • Rigor, commitment and reliability in the execution of the assigned tasks and capacity to identify priority actions
  • Familiarity with electronics office automation tools (e.g. Microsoft Office suite, including Access) and techniques, electronic mailing, customised databases
  • Knowledge of web tools and familiarity with ESA corporate tools is an advantage
